I went to the Obama rally on Tuesday with a few Swatties. We woke up at 6:30, took a school-sponsored shuttle at 7:30. Stood in line for almost two hours in the pouring rain. Wanted to go home several times. Stuck it out, finally got through security, and made our way into the already-crowded field of people waiting to see and hear Obama. It was still really cold, especially since we didn't bring umbrellas. I was wearing a peacoat, so I was completely drenched through and through. But everyone was in high spirits. There were a group of young students, possibly from Widener, behind us who were really funny and fun to be around. Some people in front of us had umbrellas and they were blocking the podium, so we kept heckling them. Some chants included, "Um-brellas Down!" "You! Burgundy! Put yo' umbrella DOWN!" and... "Tall people crouch" was a classic. The sound system also sucked. I barely heard a thing Obama said. Basically, he said we need change and hope.

I caught glimpses of Obama. Unfortunately, there was this super tall guy in my direct vision of Obama. I'm glad I went - he's a charismatic orator. I don't feel like he said anything concrete or different from all his other speeches at other rallies, but it was worth it, for the most part, to be at the rally, around people who really felt Obama could bring hope and change to America, and be close to the soon-to-be US President.
